Gundulić Square

Gundulić Square, or Gundulićeva poljana, is one of the most vibrant and historically significant open spaces within the UNESCO-protected Old Town of Dubrovnik. The square was developed following the devastating earthquake of 1667, which leveled much of the medieval city and necessitated a more organized urban layout. It was named in honor of Ivan Gundulić, the city's most celebrated Baroque poet and a key figure in Croatian literature, whose epic works like Osman continue to be studied today. At the center of the square stands a bronze monument of the poet, unveiled in 1893, which serves as a focal point for locals and tourists alike.
