Old Market Hall

The Old Market Hall in Helsinki, known locally as Vanha Kauppahalli, has served customers since 1889. The building was designed by Gustaf Nyström and its construction began in 1888, following a growing demand for a centralized, hygienic indoor space for food trade. Before its establishment, food was sold primarily in open-air markets, which were subject to the harsh Finnish weather and lacked modern sanitary standards.
