N Seoul Tower

Construction of the N Seoul Tower began in 1969 as South Korea's first general radio wave tower, designed to consolidate television and radio transmissions for the capital. Although completed in 1971, the interior was not fully finished for public access until October 1980. Since then, it has served as a vital piece of national infrastructure, housing transmitters for major broadcasters like KBS, MBC, and SBS while simultaneously becoming a beloved tourist destination. Perched atop Namsan Mountain, the tower stands at an impressive 236 meters, but its effective height reaches 480 meters above sea level, providing a dominant silhouette against the city skyline. In 2005, the landmark underwent a massive 15 billion won renovation and was rebranded as the N Seoul Tower. This update introduced the 'N' branding—symbolizing New, Namsan, and Nature—and integrated a sophisticated digital lighting system that illuminates the tower in various colors depending on the city's air quality. Today, the tower is more than just a communications hub; it is a cultural icon and a symbol of Seoul's romantic spirit. It is globally famous for its 'Locks of Love' terraces, where visitors from around the world attach padlocks to symbolize eternal affection.
