Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay originated from a 2005 vision by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to transform Singapore from a Garden City into a City in a Garden, aiming to raise the quality of life by enhancing greenery and flora in the city. The project was part of a massive land reclamation effort at Marina Bay and was designed following an international competition that attracted over 170 entries from 24 countries. The winning designs by Grant Associates and WilkinsonEyre emphasized the fusion of nature and technology, creating a premier outdoor recreation space for both locals and tourists. Since its official opening in June 2012, the park has become an architectural and horticultural marvel, anchored by its two massive cooled conservatories and the iconic Supertree Grove. The Flower Dome holds the Guinness World Record for the largest glass greenhouse, while the Cloud Forest features a 35-meter-tall mountain covered in epiphytes and one of the world's tallest indoor waterfalls. These structures were designed with sustainability in mind, utilizing advanced glass technology to minimize solar heat gain and a biomass furnace to generate energy from horticultural waste. Over the years, the Gardens have expanded to include new attractions like the Floral Fantasy and the Kingfisher Wetlands, further cementing Singapore's reputation as a global leader in sustainable urban development. The site has hosted numerous international events and has been featured in major films, becoming a recognizable symbol of the city-state's commitment to biodiversity. Today, it stands not just as a tourist destination but as a living laboratory for environmental conservation and urban greenery, attracting millions of visitors annually from across the globe.
