Singapore Flyer

Conceptualized in the early 2000s, the Singapore Flyer was designed to be a giant observation wheel that would redefine the city's skyline. Construction began in 2005, led by German engineers and local architects, with the goal of creating the world's tallest Ferris wheel. It officially opened to the public in March 2008, standing at a staggering height of 165 meters, which was 30 meters taller than the London Eye at the time. The wheel's design is a marvel of modern engineering, featuring 28 air-conditioned capsules that can each hold up to 28 passengers. Interestingly, the wheel initially rotated in a counter-clockwise direction when viewed from Marina Centre, but its rotation was reversed in August 2008 following advice from Feng Shui masters. This change was believed to bring more "good fortune" and "wealth" into the city, as the wheel would now "pull" energy from the sea into the heart of Singapore. Over the years, the Singapore Flyer has become more than just a tourist attraction; it is a symbol of Singapore's rapid urban development and its status as a global hub. Despite facing financial restructuring in its early years, it remains a cornerstone of the Marina Bay area. Today, it offers visitors a 360-degree panoramic view that stretches as far as Malaysia and Indonesia on clear days, serving as a testament to the nation's vision and architectural ambition.
